Workshops

 

FISHING ROD BUILDING • Wayne Vander Hulst has been a Counselor in Heritage Council for 20 years. This will be a 2 hour workshop where you will learn to build a fishing pole to complete Fishing Rod Badge. The class is limited to 15 people and there is a $10 fee to be sent in with your registration

 

BIG FOOTS SNOW SHOE MAKING • John Meier is a Head Counselor and Congressman from the Kalamazoo Council with 36 years of service. This will be a 2 hour class and cost $25 for materials. Each person attending is asked to take a Hammer, Pop Rivet Tool, Scissors and Utility Knife along. Limited to the first 20 to sign up and send in their $25 for materials.

 

FLY TYING • Dustin Driscoll is a Junior Counselor with the Hamilton Cadet Club, part of Heritage Council. He will show you how to tie fishing flies following the Cadet Merit Badge guidelines. He will provide a list of where you can purchase the needed tools and supplies you need to do the badge.

 

CRAFTY CRAFTS FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES • Stan Schipper was a Cadet Counselor for 25 years. He enjoys coming up with different Projects and Games in his home woodworking shop and sharing them with others.

 

SCROLL SAW BASICS • Robert Tucker had a Stroke at the age of 51 after which he was unable to work because his right side is paralyzed. One of his hobbies was cutting out patterns on the scroll saw. He learned that he could still do that and started his own business called "A Stroke Of Faith". He sells his Art at Craft Shows, He will tell his life story, discuss scroll saw safety and then have you Cut out your own take home project.

 

TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE • Steve Dykema has been a Counselor in Heritage Council for the past 5 years and has studied Biology almost all of his life. How well do you know the wildlife in the woods around you? Can you identify animals by their tracks or a bird by it's sound? This hands on workshop will help you make the Wild Life Study merit badge easy and exciting for you and your Cadets in exploring God's creation.

 

CAMP COOKING FUN OR? • Terry Kimber has been a Counselor for 44 years with Thornapple Valley Council and is the RTC for the South Central Region. He will explore some fun ways to prepare and have meals on a Campout.

 

PLANNING AN OUTDOOR ADVENTURE AND AVOIDING DISASTER • Tom Medendorp has been a Counselor for 9 years in Heritage Council. He is an avid Outdoors Man that plans and teaches about a variety of outdoor skills. He will explain the planning, preparing & executing of large group overnight adventures for Cadets, Families and Friends.

 

HUNTING & ARCHERY • Todd Vanden Heuvel has been a Counselor with Heritage Council for 11 years and a avid hunter for the past 30 years. He will show you how to maximize your time by teaching these two badges together.

 

ENHANCED COUNSELOR RECRUITMENT • Dick Broene has been a Head Counselor for 39 years in the Grand Rapids North Council. Re is the Executive Director of the Calvinist Cadet Corps. If you have trouble getting men to become Cadet Counselors come to this workshop for some new ideas.

 

NEW WEBMASTER MERIT BADGE • Bob deJonge has been part of the Cadet Office Staff as Art Director and webmaster for many years. He will go over the New WebMaster RPB Merit Badge.

 

DUTCH OVEN COOKING • Dave Plumhoff has been a Counselor for 31 years and Paul Yskes has been a Counselor 26 years. They are both DCE's from Ottagan Council. This is a 2 hour class that will teach you some basic information and instructions on Dutch Oven Cooking. You will then be divided into teams and given a recipe to prepare from scratch and cook it in a Dutch Oven.

 

BIBLE LESSONS AN OVERVIEW ON WHAT CORPS HAS TO OFFER • Greg Kooiker is a Counselor and DCE from Rush Creek Council. Bryan Mollema is A Counselor and DCE from Illiana Council. They will inform you of the different Bible Study materials available from Corps for the different age groups. They will also work through some of the lessons with you.

 

THE NAMES OF GOD • Rev. Ron Noorman is a retired CRC Pastor. He has been involved in Cadets for 28 years and is currently Chaplain of the Calvinist Cadet Corps. He will be reviewing and showing you how to use this new RPB Bible Badge.

 

A CADET COUNSELORS JOB DISCRIPTION • Lee Dobbs has been a Counselor for 30 years with the Grand Rapids Council and RTC for the North Central Region. He will discuss the job description of a Cadet Counselor.

 

PINE WOOD DERBY • Norm Ver Hage has been a Counselor in Ottagan Council since 1981 and DCE since 1993. He will share what he has learned over the years about Pinewood Derby Car Kits and some of the secrets of speed and show.

 

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION ON 2008 INTERNATIONAL CAMPOREE • A time to discuss what went good and what did not go so good at the Camporee. Share what you enjoyed the most about the Camporee and ideas to pass on to future Camporee Committees.

 

ADOLESCENCE or NOT • Lt. Lee Hoeksema is an Officer with the Ottawa County Sheriff Department. As an adult mentor to young people you may see changes in behavior or attitude: are these signs of adolescence or is it due to Substance Abuse or Neglect. This course will help ID possible "Red Flags" and how to report your suspicions.
